What is a (Gaming) HTPC?
Home Theater PCs (HTPCs) are computers designed to tackle all of the challenges of home entertainment in one elegant package. Whether the centerpiece of a home theater or doing the heavy lifting behind the scenes as a media server, these hybrid systems represent a whole new generation of PCs – blurring the line between enthusiast desktop PCs, gaming consoles, and home entertainment devices.
What's the difference between an HTPC and a normal PC?
The differences are primarily form factor, use-case as well as specialized hard- and software. HTPCs are optimized for media applications such as playing and backing up physical Blu-ray disc as well as upscaling to higher resolutions and HDR tone mapping of video media stored on the system. This requires specially selected hard- and software components to enable specific combinations of resolution and framerate like 8K/60p for the best possible viewing experience. Additionally, HTPCs are designed to be virtually inaudible and unobtrusive during operation so they won't disrupt the home theater experience.
What is the difference in case sizes / form factors?
Small Form Factor
Based around the Mini-ITX (mITX) motherboard form factor. These systems are the smallest available and have limited room for storage but are a great choice for Gaming or HTPC applications because they don't take up much space on a desk and can fit into most home entertainment furniture.
Compact
Based around the Micro-ATX (mATX) motherboard form factor. These systems offer a compelling mixture of reduced size and powerful capabilities. Compact systems have more robust cooling than small form factor systems and are quieter under load, easier to upgrade or expand with additional storage, and still fit nicely into areas with limited space.
Rackmount
Rackmount systems are intended to be mounted inside a 19" rack often found in scientific, professional, and home theater contexts. Based around the ATX motherboard form factor, these systems work great as Gaming PCs, workstation and excel in a server role with plenty of space for storage, upgrades, and advanced cooling solutions.
Tower - Mid or Full
Towers are the most common form factor for PCs and come in a variety of sizes based around the ATX, E-ATX, or CEB motherboard form factors. Towers are great for Workstations or Gaming PCs and have lots of space for upgrades, storage, custom liquid cooling, and multi-graphics card configurations. Our mid tower systems can support up to 2 liquid cooled graphics cards, our full tower systems can support up to 3 liquid cooled graphics cards.
